Sisters Erin and Misha rock my ‘hood.  Right around the corner from Junk and down the way from Hotel Delmano (where you’ll find some of the best cocktails in Brooklyn)  sits Woodley and Bunny.  They offer an apothecary and killer stylists.  White decor and fun street level windows – get it while it’s hot.

It was a GOOD thing that Fringe was my last shoot for the day as it afforded me the time to gush over the menagerie of vintage knickknacks in Fringe.  Amy Schiappa, the owner of Fringe, and I share an appreciation, bordering on obsession,  for kitsch.  We both also love Portlandia and Twin Peaks and, of course, Kyle MacLachlan.

Visit Amy and her crew then hit Babycakes next door.  Broome Street really brings it to the Lower East Side.

I will admit, my blog posts are not always timely with the article to which they may correspond…please forgive!  I photographed Jeremy Scott this fall.  Today, I saw that Jeremy is going to be on the cover of COMPLEX with ASAP Rocky next month…what a pairing – and a prompting for me to post about my time with Jeremy.

Jeremy Scott is phenomenal – known fact.  He’s generous, thoughtful, patient and eager.  He has a willingness to play and listen and collaborate.

Rhianna’s stylist was in the office picking out clothes for her to wear to something important when I arrived.  I think he went with a denim brassiere and high waisted shorts combo.  After he left and while I waited for Jeremy to be ready, I thumbed through the racks of clothes and marveled over everything.  Did you know that my favorite color is fringe?  It is and Jeremy loves fringe!

I can’t wait until Lake Street Dive comes back to the East Coast!  They’re out west in February (who can blame them) but they’ve got to return home to Brooklyn at some point and when they do – our ears will be happy.

The treats at Babycakes are beyond delightful.  I had the great pleasure of photographing master baker and Babycakes creator Erin McKenna a few months back.  They’ve just opened a shop in the Larchmont neighborhood of LA.  Visit them in person, watch their super fun videos on youtube and buy the Babycakes cookbooks – you will not regret any of these activities!

NY Times: At C. Wonder, Something Feels Familiar 

There was very little notice and very little time to photograph China Chow.  China was doing a fashion shoot for China Vogue and had agreed to step off set for 15 minutes.  The story was set to run in one week and images needed to be in by morning.  I arrived on set at 7 PM and found China and the crew breaking for dinner.  She asked me if I was able to hang out for a bit because she was starving and needed a moment to eat.  The shoot was taking place in Richard Phillips’ studio so Richard and I got to talking about his recent foray into filmmaking.

When there was finally a moment for China to step away, the whole crew left the Vogue set and came to the NY Times set (the glamorous hallway outside Richard’s studio) to cheer China on.  She was nervous and concerned about projecting the right image.  China worried about her hair being in a bun – her stepmother had told her that was too severe – and if her shirt was appropriate.  We shot until the art director gently interrupted and escorted her back into the studio.  At which point, I packed up and dragged myself home (China happened to be my fourth shoot of the day…phew!).
